As you can tell, we're running another Faction Feud event this weekend. We more than own up to the fact that Faction Feud hasn’t always gone smoothly in the past, and in the spirit of full transparency and disclosure, we'd like to give you, our players, an update on where things stand right now with this feature.
Every time we run a Faction Feud event, it has degraded overall game performance in a way that we as a team find unacceptable. We have worked vigorously to identify, triage and solve any issues that we see during the event, and while we think we’ve identified and place measures to fix what we believe is the issue we cannot be certain that the issue is completely resolved until we run a live Faction Feud due to the nature of problem. The identified cause of the slowness is the extreme load that Faction Feuds puts on an external service provider (i.e. increased traffic between our servers and theirs), which in turn degrades the quality of our service across both Faction Feud and other areas of the game.
We've made some fixes since the last Faction Feud to reduce our dependence on this service provider, but because the suspected issue is external,it's particularly difficult for us to (1) verify with certainty that this is the primary issue, and (2) test the fixes we have made without running a live Faction Feud event.
As a result, while we hope the changes we've made will have fixed the issues or at least significantly improved Faction Feud performance, we won't know 100% until we get there. We will be actively monitoring things over the weekend to see what worked, and catalogue anything that hasn’t. We want to be as upfront with you about this as possible, and as a sign of our appreciation for your continued patience and understanding, everyone who logs into the game during this week's faction feud will receive the following via an Inbox Message.:
